Jaipur, March 20 (IANS) Braving fierce winds and tough competition from his playing partner, Rashid Khan came through to bag the LG Rambagh Golf Club Open Amateur Championship by four strokes. He shot a round of two-under 68 to aggregate three-under 277 over the four rounds.
The win also ensured Rashid finished the year as the number one amateur on the LG Amateur Tour, winning four of the six tournaments he entered this season.

Local lad Amanjyot Singh had to be content with a second place finish as he returned a card of even-par 70 to end at one-over 281. S.K. Lakra shot his first under-par round of the week to finish in sole third place.

Jasjeet Singh, playing in the leader group, got off to a hot start but by the time he made the turn, he ran out of steam and finished four-over for the day, tied for fourth-place along with Arshdeep Tiwana and Ashbeer Saini.

Rashid, starting off in the rain, got his round going immediately, making a birdie after his approach shot from the fairway landed four-feet from the pin. Amanjyot matched him for most of the front-nine and the two made the turn just the way they started, only two strokes separating them.

The Delhi lad went on to consolidate his position and just when it looked like he would run away with the title, two back-to-back bogeys put Amanjyot back in contention. But, the 18-year-old steadied himself and made birdies on the last two holes to secure the win.

“I had no idea that I would finish number one. I am really excited about that. This year I did not get to play many tournaments but next year I intend to play all the tournaments on the amateur circuit.”

“It got a little tight towards the end but I was in control of my game and despite the bogeys I knew that I would be able to capitalise on the two par-5 holes in the end.”
