New Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS) Baroda’s Rakesh Solanki, Haryana’s Rahul Dewan and Sunny Singh and Mumbai’s Kaustubh Pawar smashed hundreds to put their respective sides in good position on the first day of the fourth round of Ranji Trophy matches in the Elite Division Tuesday.

Solanki’s unbeaten 109 came after Delhi put Baroda in at the Ferozeshah Kotla here. The visitors lost their openers at the score of 31 but Solanki with the help of Ambati Rayudu (39) and skipper Pinal Shah (83 not out) did well to end the day at 273 for three in 85 overs. Ashish Nehra picked up a wicket but proved expensive, giving away 84 runs in 18 overs.

At Rohtak, Haryana, courtesy Dewan’s 115 and Singh’s 111, were 258 for five in the first innings against Bengal at the Bansi Lal Cricket Stadium. Dewan and Singh shared a 161-run stand for the second wicket to give Baroda a great foundation for a huge score but three quick wickets towards the end left the match nicely poised.

Pawar was standing tall at 122 at stumps in the match between Mumbai and Orissa at DRIEMS Ground in Cuttack. Mumbai ended at 311 for three with the in-form Abhishek Nayar making 71.

Madhya Pradesh’s medium pacer Ishwar Pandey wreaked havoc at the Emerald High School Ground in Indore, picking six wickets to bowl out Gujarat for 130 runs. Fast bowler T.P. Sudhindra also took three wickets. The hosts were 51 for two in reply with Mohnish Mishra and Devendra Bundela batting on 27 and 19.
