Randy WinnJan 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Outfielder Randy Winn has taken up a spot with the Yankees after roaming around as a free agent for months. The entry of Randy Winn means that Johny Damon is now out of the picture. There had been several reports that Johny Damon had been having issues with the General Manager. However, Randy Winn will probably fall short of taking Johnny Damon’s place as the second slot hitter. As everyone knows, Johnny Damon was “a force with his 24 homers power”. He had the perfect speed required and the ‘hell-bent style’ teams look for in a player. Johnny Damon was however, a week link when it came to the outfield. He was fondly called the ‘pie thrower’. This is one place the team would not be regretting the GM’s decision to sack him and appoint Randy Winn.

Randy Winn, 35 has been playing with the San Francisco Giants since 2005. He stuck to the team till 2009 to make his 200th stolen base and 500th walk but very soon became a free agent. Yesterday the player accepted a $2 million contact with the Yankees for a single year. However, a physical is pending, after which the contract will go into effect. This physical is scheduled to take place on 28th after which Johnny Damon’s chances of taking part in the World Series will be thrashed.

Reports have been claiming that Johnny Damon’s agent Scott Boras used ‘negotiation tactics’ with the General Manager of the team, which had quite the opposite effect. Originally the contract between the player and the team was for $14 million for two years. However, the player’s agent Scott Boras wanted a $ 10 million per year figure with a multi-year contract.
