Madrid, Apr 21(ANI): Real Madrid’s late-night Copa del Rey celebrations at the Plaza de Cibeles, Madrid, took a turn for the worse when the trophy slipped out of defender Sergio Ramos’s hands and fell under the bus.

Madrid had ended an 18-year Copa del Rey trophy drought with a 1-0 victory over archrival Barcelona on Wednesday at the Mestalla in Valencia.

When the team arrived back in a rain-soaked Madrid and boarded an open-top bus that would take them to the center of the celebrations at the Plaza de Cibeles, Ramos took hold of the trophy and held it high above his head at the front of the bus as it moved slowly through the streets.

And less than 24 hours after winning the trophy for the first time since 1993, Ramos broke it when it slipped out of his hands and fell under the bus, BBC Day reports.

With the trophy lodged under the bus’ front bumper, the driver had to stop and get out as a group of cops came over to pry it out.

The celebration continued on and everyone seemed far too happy to be upset about the accident.

It is the first silverware under manager Jose Mourinho and first since a Spanish league trophy in 2008. (ANI)
