Raghav Bhandari leads strong field at Maharashtra Open golf

Pune, Oct 25 (IANS) Chandigarh?s Raghav Bhandari played superb golf to card a three-under 68 and take the lead on the opening day of the Maharashtra Open amateur championship here Tuesday.

Delhi golfer Kanishk Madan (69) was second and lying in the third place was another young Delhi star, Honey Baisoya (71) as the weather was ideal for golf at the lush green Poona Club Golf Course.

Bhandari of Chandigarh had one bogey on the second and then two birdies on the sixth and seventh as he turned in one-under. On the back nine, he birdied the 10th and then added another on 13th. A bogey on 17th was followed by a closing birdie on 18th for the 68.

Madan had two birdies against no bogeys on front nine, but had two each of birdies and bogeys on the back nine for 69.

Five players including Karnataka?s CG. Somiah, Delhi?s Gagan Verma, Bengaluru?s Khalin Joshi, Aditya Singh and Sidharth Semwal shot 72 each and shared the fourth place. Trishul Chinappa (74) was further down in 11th place.
