Kansas City, Sep 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Although the San Diego Chargers on Monday night could not win the season opening game against the Kansas City Chiefs, few will disagree to the statement that quarterback Philip Rivers outplayed Kansas City Chief’s quarterback Matt Cassel. Philip Rivers is one such player among the San Diego Chargers who won even if the team lost the game at the end.
From the very beginning of the game it was Philip Rivers who took the charge to lead San Diego Chargers and in the first quarter of the game it was his touchdown pass that led the team to post an early lead. During 1:52 minutes remaining of the first quarter of the game, Philip Rivers engineered a 60-yard scoring drive and then went for a 3-yard pass to wide-open Antonio Gates. The touchdown made the scoreboard read 7-0 in favor of San Diego Chargers. Although the lead was equaled by the Kansas City Chiefs by the end of the first quarter, it could in no way dampen the spirit of Philip Rivers who completed 22-of-39 passes successfully for 298 yards and also added another touchdown during the play.
In the third quarter of the game, while the Kansas City Chiefs were leading by 21-7, Philip Rivers went for a 59-yard touchdown pass to Legedu Naanee who caught the ball just on time to post a touchdown. The touchdown provided the team with 7 more points and decreased the margin of win to 7. Being only the first game of the season, the fans of San Diego Chargers are hopeful that they will get to see some more such plays from Philip Rivers this season.
