November 25th, 2011 - 5:55 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 25 (IANS) Pune Strykers is the third team announced by World Series Hockey (WSH) Friday and the franchise has been acquired by a corporate gifting and innovation company.
Sai Grace Sports and Events Private Limited (SGSEPL) is the owner of the Pune franchise, WSH said in a statement.
It is third of the eight city-based franchises unveiled by WSH. The Chennai and the Bangalore franchises have been announced.
The director of SGSEPL, Manoj Choudhary is the promoter of Jewel Products, one of India’s leading corporate gifting and innovation companies.
Choudhary, a hockey aficionado, said Pune has a glorious hockey legacy and it was only fitting that the city fields a team in WSH.
“We have always involved ourselves in sports and World Series Hockey provides an excellent platform to express our abiding interest in the game.”
The WSH will be held from Dec 17 to Jan 22 and will involve 200 leading players — Indian and international — who will showcase their talent in 61 matches. It will be a multi-city franchise-based league with players being allocated to the teams based on the internationally accepted and practised ‘draft’ system.
