PSA Challenger squash tourney to be held in Chennai

Chennai, Oct 31 (IANS) The $15,000 PSA Indian Challenger No.1 squash tournament will be organised by the Squash Rackets Federation of India (SRFI) at the ICL Squash Academy here Nov 3-8. The tournament is the first in the series of international tournaments supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the scheme for preparation of Indian teams for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

This professional men’s squash tournament has two Indians, national champion Saurav Ghosal (ranked 39) and Ritwik Bhattacharya (ranked 57) as the top two seeds in keeping with their world rankings.

The 16-player main draw has entrants from Austria, Hong Kong, Malaysia and England. The other Indians in the fray are Siddharth Suchde, Gaurav Nandrajog and Harinderpal Singh (wild card). Four slots in the main draw are open to the qualifiers.

The qualifying phase also has a comprehensive line-up with several overseas players from Kuwait, Egypt, Iran and Jordan.

Among the Indians, Naresh Kumar, Vikas Jangra, Sandeep Jangra, A. Parthiban and B. Balamurugan are in the qualifying phase.
