Proteas thrash Sri Lanka for first home series win since 2008
January 6th, 2012 - 9:25 pm ICT by IANSCape Town, Jan 6 (IANS) South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the third and final cricket Test here for their first home series win since 2008.
Following on, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 342 on day four, setting South Africa a paltry two-run target. Alviro Petersen (1 not out) and Graeme Smith (0 not out) completed the formality in the first over bowled by Dhammika Prasad.
The visitors could manage only 239 in the first innings following South Africa’s mammoth score of 580.
South Africa won the first Test at Centurion while Sri Lanka levelled the series at Durban.
