Proteas’ run chase against India their highest in World Cup

Nagpur, March 13 (IANS) South Africa’s successful run chase of 300/6 against India Saturday is their highest in World Cup history.
The other highlights:
* Dale Steyn has become the sixth South African bowler to take five wickets in an innings at the World Cup, joining Andrew Hall (vs. England), Lance Klusener (vs. Kenya), Shaun Pollock (vs. Australia), Charles Langeveldt (vs. Sri Lanka) and Andre Nel (vs. Bangladesh).
* Steyn became the fifth South African bowler to capture five wickets in an innings against India in ODIs - the other four being Lance Klusener, Shaun Pollock, Hansie Cronje and Allan Donald.
* For the fifth time in as many 2011 World Cup games, Virender Sehwag’s first scoring stroke was a four.
* Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, with their 142-run stand, established a first wicket partnership record for India against South Africa at the World Cup.
* The partnership is the highest for India for any wicket against South Africa at the World Cup, obliterating the 130 for the second wicket at Hove on May 15, 1999.
* This partnership is the best by any pair against South Africa for the first wicket at the World Cup, surpassing the 114 by Mark Greatbatch and Rod Latham for New Zealand at Auckland on February 29, 1992.
* Gambhir’s 69 off 75 balls is his first fifty against South Africa.
* Steyn is the first South African bowler to take five wickets in an innings in a World Cup game in India. He is the first South African bowler to claim five wickets against India at the World Cup.
* India were dismissed for 296 after being 267 for one, losing nine wickets for 29 runs - the worst collapse suffered by a Test country at the World Cup.
* India have recorded four ducks in their innings - a dubious distinction achieved by them for the first time in a World Cup innings.
* Zaheer Khan has taken Graeme Smith’s wicket six times - the most times a bowler has dismissed Smith in ODIs.
* India reached 100 off 11.4 overs - the fastest team hundred of the 2011 World Cup.
* Jacques Kallis became the second South African to complete his 1,000 runs at the World Cup, aggregating 1013 at an average of 46.04, including one century and eight fifties.
* Herschelle Gibbs (1,067 at an average of 56.15 in 25 matches) is the leading run-getter at the World Cup for South Africa.
* Kallis has recorded his 81st fifty in ODIs - his eleventh against India.
* Hashim Amla and Kallis were associated in a stand of 86 for the second wicket - South Africa’s highest against India at the World Cup.
* AB de Villiers is the first South African and the third to complete 300 runs or more at the 2011 edition of the World Cup - 318 at an average of 106.00 in four games, including two centuries and one fifty.
* Harbhajan Singh has completed his 250 wickets in ODIs - 251 at an average of 33.33 in 222 matches. He became the sixth Indian bowler to achieve the distinction, joining Anil Kumble (337), Javagal Srinath (315), Ajit Agarkar (288), Kapil Dev (253) and Zaheer Khan (264).
* South Africa have won all three World Cup games against India.
