Priety Zinta unveils Mohali IPL teamApril 1st, 2008 - 1:04 am ICT by admin
Mohali (Punjab), March 31 (IANS) In the end, not even a last minute change of venue for the launch could hold them back. The Mohali team of Indian Premier League (IPL), owned by Bollywood actress Priety Zinta and her industrialist boyfriend Ness Wadia, was launched at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium here Monday evening. Icon player Yuvraj Singh walked on stage with compatriots, fast bowlers S. Sreesanth and Irfan Pathan, as the Kings XI was unveiled here.
The launch was originally slated at the Sector 17 plaza in Chandigarh, 10 km from here. But a few hours before the event, the organizers changed the venue, owing to security concerns - bringing the team launch to its home ground here.
Still a sizeable crowd filled up some enclosures of the stadium.
An excited Priety, surrounded by burly bouncers and her boyfriend, said she had 300 reasons to be associated with the Mohali team. “The first one among that is that I belong to Shimla which is close from here.”
Zinta said her team did not require any brand ambassadors as the Delhi Daredevils Monday announced Akshay Kumar as theirs.
“We have several stars - Yuvraj, Sreesanth, Irfan and many more - we don’t need any other ambassadors. We will fight to win the tournament,” she announced confidently.
Young spinner Piyush Chawla and the Mohali team coach, Australian Tom Moody, were also present at the launch. PCA president and International Cricket Council’s (ICC) principal adviser-designate I.S. Bindra too was present.
Adding musical colour to the launch was famous singer Daler Mehndi who sang the team song and also had the stars of the evening shake a leg or two.
Big names in the Kings XI include speedster Bret Lee, Sri Lankans Kumara Sanghakara and Mahela Jayawardane, Australian Simon Katich and West Indian Ramnaresh Sarwan.
