New Delhi, Oct 17 (ANI): President Pratibha Patil today congratulated master batsman, Sachin Tendulkar on becoming the highest run scorer in Test Cricket today, during the first day of the Second Test against Australia at Mohali.
In her message, the President said, ” I am extremely delighted and proud that you have reached the pinnacle of achievement in cricket today, by becoming the highest run getter in Test Cricket.”
“By doing so you have given joy to billions of Indians and I am sure that you will continue to set new standards of achievement in the future,” She added.
Tendulkar completed 12000 runs in Tests today.
Tendulkar achieved the feat with his 61st run, a flick down to square-leg of Australian leg-spinner Cameron White. He was given a huge round of applause by his team mates and cricket fans.
Tendulkar, a right-hand bat has played 152 Test matches and scored 12000 runs at an astounding average of 54.29.
Earlier in his innings, Tendulkar became the highest scorer in Tests by surpassing West Indian batsman Brian Lara’’s record of 11953 runs. The record came with his 15th run. That landmark was also greeted with joy by players on both sides and the crowd that was watching the match. (ANI)
