Prayag United stun East Bengal in I-League

Kolkata, Jan 31 (IANS) A last minute goal from Kayne Vincent helped Prayag United beat East Bengal 1-0 at the Salt Lake Stadium here Tuesday.

The win takes Prayag United to 32 points from 18 matches just two points behind East Bengal, who are on 34 points.

The loss hampered East Bengals title hopes while Prayag United are now back in the fray for the top slot.

East Bengal started with lone striker Tolgay Ozbey upfront while Prayag had Vincent playing just behind their Brazilian centre forward Joshimar.

In the first half, East Bengal had thei best chance when Tolgay’s header was brilliantly saved by Prayag goalkeeper Abhijjeet Mondal.

In the 62nd minute, a long ranger from Prayag United’s James Singh was well saved by Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who had to dive to his right to save the shot.

A disastrous move in the 92nd minute cost East Bengal the match. East Bengal were awarded a corner in the injury time and surprisingly Sandhu went up to take the flag kick. But the move backfired as Vincent found a lose ball and raced towards an empty East Bengal half and tapped it past Saumik Dey.
