Poor fielding hurt Railways against Punjab (Ranji Round-up)
December 16th, 2009 - 11:00 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Dec 16 (IANS) Railways kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the quarterfinals after they reduced Punjab to 154 for four in the first innings on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Super League match at the Karni Singh Stadium here Wedneday.
Resuming at their overnight score of 191 for six, Railways were all out for 276 after Karan Sharma hit 59 at the Karni Singh Stadium.
In reply, Mayank Sidhana hit 54 and Uday Kaul was batting on 46 as Punjab reduced the deficit to 122 at stumps.
Railways could have got Punjab out cheaply but skipper Murali Kartik, Sanjay Bangar and Yere Goud were guilty of dropping some easy catches.
Rahul Sharma was the most successful Punjab bowler, finishing with impressive figures of 6-92 from his 28 overs.
Railways need at least five points from this match and only an outright victory can help them to seal a quarter-final berth. Punjab, on the other hand, need only a point to advance.
