Poonacha, Riya bag ITF junior titles
September 1st, 2012 - 4:32 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Sep 1 (IANS) Niki Kaliyandi Poonacha completed his dream run in the Indian Oil-Servo ITF junior tennis tournament by winning the boys singles title after he beat third seed Suraj R. Prabodh 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, in the final, here Saturday.
Poonacha started rather shakily, dropping serve in the second and fourth game, and though he broke back in the sixth, the deficit was too much to make up.
Two breaks of serve in the second set and one more in the third saw Poonacha winning in a canter while Prabodh faded after early resistance.
Eight seed Riya Bhatia defeated Pranjala Yadlapalli 7-6 (8), 6-1, in the girls singles final that saw both players struggling to hold serve with the match witnessing as many as nine service breaks.
