Ponting to talk on Australian team behaviour
December 21st, 2009 - 4:51 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Perth, Dec 21(ANI): Australian skipper Ricky Ponting has said that he was not proud of his players’ behaviour during the Frank Worrell Trophy series against the West Indies, and would address the group on the issue ahead of the Boxing Day Test against Pakistan.
“I’m not proud of the fact. I’m sure the players aren’t proud of the fact either that we’ve had three guys reported in the one game. Reports are something we’ve been really strict in the last couple of years, that’s amongst the player group ourselves, and we’ve got a good record over the last couple of years,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying.
“I know all the guys are a bit embarrassed probably and know they have overstepped the mark. I guess as captain you do have to take some responsibility for it, but when things happen in the spur of the moment like that it’s not as if I can interject or stop it as it’s happening either,” he added.
He further said that every individual in the team has some responsibilities, and as the captain, it was his responsibility to make sure players did not overstep the mark.
Match referee Chris Broad imposed fines on all rounder Shane Watson, wicketkeeper Brad Haddin and fast bowler Mitchell Johnson for bringing the game into disrepute in Perth, while Doug Bollinger was reprimanded for kicking the pitch when an lbw appeal was turned down during the second Test in Adelaide.
