Melbourne, Mar 31(ANI): Former South African coach Mickey Arthur reckons that former Australian captain Ricky Ponting should continue batting at number three to revitalize his game back to its absolute best.

“I’m of the opinion he (Ponting) should stay at number three. I think he’s still the best in that position,” Stuff.co.nz quoted Arthur, as saying.

“We saw that in the World Cup game (against India), but it will be interesting to see where he ends up. If I was coaching I’d want him there,” he added.

Arthur also said that it is vital that experienced players like Ponting and Michael Hussey are retained for the back-to-back tours to Sri Lanka and South Africa later this year.

Ponting had scored 206 runs from seven World Cup games at an average of 34.33.

His 104 from 118 balls against India in the quarterfinal was his first international century in 13 months. (ANI)
