Ponting concerned about ‘dangerous’ Pakistan’s potential
December 22nd, 2009 - 1:59 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Sydney, Dec. 22 (ANI) : Australian captain Ricky Ponting is worried about the forthcoming Test series against Pakistan, as he believes that the visitors could give tough competition to the hosts during the series.
Ponting, who is likely to miss the Boxing Day Test due to an elbow injury, is more concerned about Pakistan’s bowling attack than the batting line-up.
The Australian skipper said Pakistan’s bowling department has some world-class spinners and fast bowlers.
He is particularly impressed by teenage pace sensation Mohammad Aamer, who Ponting believes could play a major role in the series.
“We know that they’re a very dangerous side. They’ve started to get their fast-bowling attack back on the park again as well. The young left-armer looks like a likely type and Mohammad Asif is back playing again, and Umar Gul is a good bowler,” The Daily Times quoted Ponting, as saying.
Punter said with Danish Kaneria back in the squad, Pakistan’s spin department has all the elements to trouble the Aussie batsmen.
“Danish Kaneria I noticed just got picked back in their side again, who’s a world-class leg-spinner, and Saeed Ajmal as well is a world-class off-spinner. And we’re playing in Melbourne and Sydney, so they’ll be a formidable attack, there’s no doubt about that,” he said
“As a package, if you look at their team they’ve got a number of exceptional players. If they stick together as a group and play well together as a team, they can be very dangerous,” Ponting added.
Pakistan and Australia have not met in a Test since 2004-05 and Ponting said Australia would be wary of Pakistan’s potential. (ANI)
