Dec 23, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Several days of heavy rain now poses as an obstacle for the scheduled Poinsettia Bowl game on Thursday night at Qualcomm stadium between the two teams San Diego State and Navy. It left the field under several inches of water just a time slightly before 24 hours of kickoff.
Reports revealed that on Wednesday afternoon the tarp which covers the field had a look resembling a pool cover. It appeared as if the ‘ kickoff field’ was under perhaps 10 inches or more of muddy water. Sources revealed that there seems to be an expectation that the expected crowd of 51, 000 may face problems while parking their vehicles as a large portion of the parking lot has flooded as well. Every time it rains hard the parking lot behind San Diego river gets flooded. The ‘ cats and dogs’ on Tuesday forced the two teams to hold practices in hotel ballrooms. San Diego State held their Wednesday walkthrough on campus whereas Navy found a high school near the hotel which had a turf field. Executive Director Bruce Binkowski said that they are having an intention of kicking off at 5: 06 p.m. He even said the stadium grounds crew will work round the clock so that they can get in the game.
Coaches Brady Hoke of San Diego State and Ken Niumatalolo of Navy were left with a mindset of vowing to splash through the mud due to the soaking wet conditions. Niumatalolo out spoke ” Sometimes college football has become big business but these are young men that grew up playing football in the backyard when it is raining. we are excited to strap it anytime. For our seniors, this is going to be the last time for them to do this.” The Navy coach even confessed that as the team had practiced on the ballroom carpet, so they are about to face a minimal carryover. Reports say that San Diego coach Brady Hoke is planning to have a great fun during the game. Hoke thinks this obstacle from the side of weather is a part of game, as all of them have grown up by playing in that sort of weather and even had a lot of fun.
