Cologne (Germany), June 24 (DPA) Germany striker Lukas Podolski hopes his return to former club Cologne can help the German Bundesliga club into the Champions League.
The 24-year-old begins training with Cologne Thursday following his move back from Bayern Munich after three seasons at the German giants.
“I hope to be able to play in the Champions League with Cologne at some stage,” Podolski said Wednesday as he was presented to the media.
Cologne sporting director Michael Meier described the return of Podolski, who cost in the region of 10 million euros, as something special for the fans.
“This was a very special transfer, one driven by emotions,” he said. “We are expecting an improvement in our play but no miracles.”
Podolski, for his part, said he was simply looking forward to getting onto the pitch and repaying the faith of the fans.
“This isn’t a new experience for me here. I don’t need any time to settle in. I am well prepared for the pressure,” he said.
