‘Playing against India in India’ my greatest challenge: Hauritz
September 17th, 2010 - 12:33 pm ICT by ANISydney, Sep 17(ANI): Australian off-spinner Nathan Hauritz has said that next month’s two-Test series against World No.1 India would be the biggest challenge of his career.
Hauritz, who has not played since June due to a foot injury, is excited rather than daunted by the prospect of bowling to the best batsmen of spin bowling in the world.
When asked if it was the biggest test of his career to date, Hauritz said: “I’d say so definitely. Playing against India in India in those conditions.”
“The wickets where we are playing are not normally the traditional spin-friendly ones, but (against) Tendulkar and those sort of guys, it will be a great challenge,” The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Hauritz, as saying.
The 28-year-old also said that he was looking forward to some much needed match practice, after recovering from his injury.
“I haven’t played in the last two or three months, but I have been bowling for the last month, three days a week, but there is nothing like match practice,” Hauritz said.
Hauritz further insisted that he is confident of putting in a good performance following captain Ricky Ponting’s backing.
Ponting recently declared that Hauritz was locked in as Australia’s chief spinner for the Indian tour and the following Ashes series.
“It’s fantastic to have your captain’s backing behind you. It’s a very tough side to get into, but to be part of it consistently is great,” Hauritz said. (ANI)
