Pietersen urges ECB to supply players with Oz-like space age vests

London, Jan.21 (ANI): England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has called on the England and Wales County Board (ECB) to supply England stars with the same secret space-age vests Australia are using to become the best team on the planet.
The Aussies have been wearing special GPS outfits during games to record heart rates and blood pressure plus the distances and speeds they run.
Coach Tim Nielsen then uses the detailed information to plot individual training programmes for each player to make them the fittest team in Test cricket.
“I would love to get hold of one of them. I inquired about them in the summer. I wanted to see how far I was running in a one-day game and during a Test match. It would be very positive to get hold of that technology. Why should the Aussies be the only team to have it? People think cricketers are just lazy and don’t get up to much. “But we do short sprints, long spells, little runs. It would be a real eye-opener for the public and help our training,” Pietersen told News of The World.
But as England prepare to fly out for their tour of New Zealand next Saturday, the coaching staff have still not got their hands on one.
The vests (left) take satellite signals to track a player’s movement and are being used as part of an Australian Institute of Sport trial.
The Aussies insist no other country is using similar technology and it will be a secret weapon in preparing them for the 2009 Ashes encounter and the 2011 World Cup. (ANI)
