Pietersen reveals full extent of his Achilles injury
July 19th, 2009 - 4:50 pm ICT by ANILondon, July 19(ANI): English batsman Kevin Pietersen has revealed the full extent of his agonising Achilles injury, and disclosed that the injury was ruining his summer, as he is not able to run properly.
“To be honest it plays on my mind all day and every day. People who have had injuries know that it definitely does affect the way they play. It doesn’t really affect my stroke play but running between wickets and diving around is problematic,” news of the World quoted Pietersen, as saying.Pietersen also acknowledged the Achilles injury as the first major injury that he had to bear with.
“This is the first injury I have had and, mentally, they really do get to you. I’ve had two injections into my back - a perineural and an epidural. And I’ve had a cortisone and a homeopathic injection into my Achilles,” he added.
Pietersen further added that his physiotherapist is working on his injury on a daily basis and that he would do all possible measures to play down the frustrating injury.
“We’re not talking about anything in the future, we’re just managing it right now. We are treating it on a day-to-day basis just to get me out on to the pitch. It’s incredibly frustrating,” Pietersen said.
“I’m not ruling anything out in terms of the rest of the series. What I will say is I am doing everything I can to get myself right. I’ll do anything I can do to play,” he added. (ANI)
