Philadelphia Eagles Releases Running Back Brian Westbrook

brainPhiladelphia, Feb 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Philadelphia Eagles released much acclaimed running back Brian Westbrook on Tuesday, which brought to an end an illustrious association of the player with the team. The 30 year old player, who is known for his dynamic on-field skills, had been battling injuries for quite a few years now.

While reacting to the release of the running back, Eagles coach Andy Reid showered praise on Brian Westbrook and reiterated that bringing an end to the eight year long association with the player was one of the most difficult decisions that the team had to take. At the same time, while describing the talented player, the coach added that he was one of the best running back’s to have ever played for the Philadelphia Eagles. Moreover, Andy Reid also emphasized that Brian Westbrook also played a pivotal role in building the team over the years. Meanwhile, the news that the running back would be released from the team was supposedly broken to him by the coach himself, who called him up on Tuesday morning to intimate him about the team’s decision. It has also been stated that the player was informed about his release at this point of time so that he could go into discussion with other teams and could still have the opportunity to pursue another job.

Brian Westbrook, who is a former All-Pro, led NFL with 2,104 yards from scrimmage in the year 2007. The season also witnessed the player rushing for 1,333 yards as well as contributed twelve touchdowns, which established him as one of the leading running backs of the league. However, for the last few years Brian Westbrook had to miss many games owing to injuries.
