pebblebeach2June 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) World No.2 Phil Mickelson missed 6 putts that were under 10 feet and hit the ball in the ocean twice at the Pebble Beach course in the first round of the US Open on June 18. He shot an four-over-par 75 and yet fans are certain that the player will come out of the ditch in the days to come. On the other hand the unknown Spaniard Rafael Cabrera-Bello finished with one-under-par 70 with a total tally of four birdies and three bogeys.

The first round of the US Open is known for its unpredictable scores as players get used to the conditions of the tournament. For Phil Mickelson the expectations were very high. After the game Phil Mickelson appreciated the spectacular golf course and said that he didn’t want the weekend to end. He also said that he will pick up his game the next day. He added that it was obvious that an under par score was not going to win the tournament. He described his putting as ‘horrific’ and said that he was frustrated to miss all the opportunities. For the 24 year old Rafael Cabrera-Bello his name on the leader board was a complete surprise. Asked about his expectations from the next day he said that it was ‘absolutely nothing’.

Phil Mickelson said that the ball was jumping around his putter initially but later he understood and adjusted the problem. Rafael Cabrera-Bello was however happy to have a putter. He had a number of problems before arriving at the venue. He was supposed to fly in on Saturday from Spain to San Francisco via Philadelphia but in Madrid he had some Visa problems.
