Petersen asks team to ditch Ashes mania and get some wins under beltDecember 28th, 2008 - 2:48 pm ICT by ANI
London, Dec 28 (ANI): England cricket captain Kevin Pietersen has warned his team to ditch the Ashesmania and get some wins under their belt.
England has six Tests against the West Indies and a Twenty20 World Cup to get through before the first clash with Australia in Cardiff in July.
Pietersen is desperate to get England back on the winning track after a desperate winter and has told his players and the fans not to look too far ahead, News of the world reported.
Pietersen said: We havent won a match since the end of last summer so weve got to get our ducks in a row, forget about the Aussies and get back to winning ways. Last time we won The Ashes we went in on the back of four or five series wins and had a lot of momentum behind us. That is what weve got to start building now.
Weve got to stop talking about The Ashes and concentrate on getting some momentum going. Then we can start thinking about the Aussies. We lost the one-dayers in India 5-0, lost the Test series and havent been playing anything fantastic, he said.
We played some good cricket for four days of the First Test in India but still lost so wed be stupid to get ahead of ourselves. We cant have one eye on something that is seven months down the track when weve got six Tests against the West Indies to play, Pietersen added. (ANI)
