July 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tonight the attention of the media and football fans are fixed on the final of the ongoing 2010 Fifa world cup that is being place on South Africa. However, the excitement regarding the most famous animal oracle Paul the psychic octopus has also reached a height. The Octopus became sort of a celebrity after all of his predictions on the Germany matches turned out to be right.
The German fans are seeing red after the defeat of their team and they even threatened to kill the animal. In the meantime People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals commonly known as PETA has raised its voice to set the psychic octopus free. The British born animal is now in Germany where he is kept in an aquarium.
Bruce Friedrich, a PETA Spokesman has revealed that the group is urging people to sign a web based campaign to set the octopus free. The Octopus has predicted Spain as the winner for this year’s Fifa world cup, a view that has been opposed by a Parrot oracle from Singapore. The supporters of Paul however are upbeat about the viability of Paul’s predictions. PETA is not much concerned about the correctness of the predictions that the psychic octopus makes but it has expressed its concerns about the way the animal is kept.
PETA has said in its statement that it is not very nice to keep the octopus confined to an aquarium. However, a spokesperson from Sea Life has opposed the view of PETA. She said that since the octopus is use to the captivity releasing him in open water would make things very hard for him.
