Perfect coordination among all agencies for Games: Dikshit
March 29th, 2010 - 8:05 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, March 29 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday said there was perfect coordination between different agencies involved in making preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.”There has been perfect coordination between different agencies involved in making preparations for the Games as their assignments are clearly defined and there is no overlapping at all,” Dikshit said at a seminar “Delhi 2010: The Games and the Commonwealth” at the India Habitat Centre here.
Interestingly, the chief minister has always complained about lack of cooperation from agencies like Delhi Police, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) which are outside the state government’s jurisdiction. She has repeatedly requested the central government to bring the MCD under Delhi government’s control.
According to an official statement, Dikshit also observed at the seminar that the hosting of 19th Commonwealth Games in Delhi provided an excellent opportunity to simultaneously undertake a number of infrastructural projects which will become an integral part of city’s legacy.
She said she was confident that the Games scheduled in October would be a “grand success”.
“We are going to substantially achieve, as far as infrastructure development is concerned, immediately after the Games what we could have achieved in a decade or so,” the chief minister said, highlighting infrastructure projects like the quick connectivity to the city airport with the Airport Metro Line, expansion of the Delhi Metro around the city, and new flyovers, which will be made functional ahead of the Oct 3-14 games events.
“The Commonwealth Games 2010 will place Delhi in the list of leading global sports venues capable of organising mega events of this scale like Olympic Games. The Games have also paved the way for making Delhi a power-surplus state,” Dikshit said.
Dikshit also added that she expressed hope that construction of all infrastructure projects and sporting venues will be over by June or early July 2010.
She also said that the successful completion of boxing, hockey, and shooting trial events had established that Delhi’s infrastructure “is up to the mark”.
