PCB ‘unhopeful’ of bilateral India-Pak series in near future
April 11th, 2010 - 3:23 pm ICT by ANIKarachi, Apr.11 (ANI): Chances of a bilateral India-Pakistan cricket series appears dim, as Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials believe that unless the political relationship between two countries does not improve, holding such a series would not be possible.
PCB’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Wasim Bari said the board’s proposal to host matches between the two arch rivals on a neutral venue has also not materialised.
“There has been no development on the idea of having matches against India on neutral venues. The thing is that we can’t line up anything with India unless there is a go-ahead from the two governments. For the time being I’m not too hopeful of getting that,” The News quoted Bari, as saying.
Bari said that there are no issues between the PCB and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and both share good relationship, but is the governments which have to give green signal for a bilateral series.
“There are no problems between the two boards and if given the go-ahead by the governments we can work on a bilateral series,” he said.
The PCB had raised its hopes about hosting India on neutral soil after getting support from the International Cricket Council (ICC) last year.
The ICC had backed the idea of keeping regular slots for Pakistan-India matches in its Future Tour Programme (FTP) from 2012 to 2016 and to 2020.
The PCB is hoping to recover huge losses and resurrect its sagging financial condition through India-Pakistan matches, as it has lost millions after several foreign teams refused to tour the country citing security reasons.
India had also cancelled its tour to Pakistan in March 2009 in the wake of November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. (ANI)
