PCB undecided on sending Misbah to New Zealand
November 21st, 2009 - 2:21 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )Karachi, Nov.21 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is undecided on sending middle order batsman Misbah-ul-Haq to New Zealand as a replacement for Younis Khan.
PCB insiders said the selectors have decided to send Misbah to New Zealand for the three match Test series, but not before the first Test, which will get underway in Dunedin from November 24.
Sources said selectors want to see how the batting line up fare in the first Test before taking the final decision on Misbah’s inclusion in the playing eleven.
“The selectors could be forced to review their decision and send Misbah to New Zealand if our batting fails in the first Test,” The News quoted sources, as saying. The PCB was not in favour of sending any replacement for Younis Khan who opted out of the series, but stand-in captain Mohammad Yousuf urged the selectors that the team needed experienced players like Misbah in the team.
“Pakistan already have 17 players in New Zealand then what’s the need to send another man there,” one of the selectors had said earlier.
Yousuf had said that Misbah has been performing well in the domestic season and done well at the international level in the past, so must be there on the Kiwi tour.
“He (Misbah) is a good batsman and I think he would prove helpful for the team. He has been playing well in domestic cricket and I hope he would also perform well in the series against New Zealand,” he said.
Misbah is currently playing in Bangladesh’s domestic league, after being axed from both the Test and one-day squad for the series against the Black Caps. (ANI)
