PCB to shun its legal war against ICC
July 25th, 2009 - 4:24 pm ICT by ANILahore, July 25 (ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to withdraw its legal notice against the International Cricket Council (ICC) that challenged the apex cricket authority’s decision to shift the 2011 World Cup games from Pakistan.
Sources privy to the PCB, said board chairman Ijaz Butt has decided to withdraw the case and will make a formal announcement about it when he meets ICC president David Morgan on July 28 in Dubai.
Sources said, the PCB may ask for more financial benefits from the ICC against its share of eight matches which were later shifted to India.
They said the PCB has decided to take back the legal notice after its legal consultants advised the board that the case was not strong enough, especially when the ICC had endorsed the decision of shifting the matches from ICC Development International (IDI), The Dawn reports.
The ICC has ensured that Pakistan would not lose any money from the shift of the matches, and would get its hosting fee of 10.5 million dollars.
The ICC shifted the games from Pakistan to the other three host nations - India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh - citing security reasons, but the PCB maintains that since the security scenario is more or less the same in all other three countries, the World Cup should be shifted from the sub-continent to Australia and New Zealand.
The PCB is also pushing to host its share of matches at neutral venues such as Dubai and Abu-Dhabi, but the ICC has rejected this move. (ANI)
