PCB to send World Cup probables list to ICC anti-corruption unit for clearance
November 15th, 2010 - 2:13 pm ICT by ANIKarachi, Nov 15(ANI): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will send a list of potential 2011 World Cup probables to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC)’s Anti-corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) before selecting the final squad.
PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt announced this at a governing board meeting in Karachi.
According to the News, the development is part of continuing efforts by the PCB to restore confidence in a battered reputation following a year of unrelenting corruption allegations linked to the national side.
Pakistan’s selectors are expected to meet today to put together a list of 40 probables for the tournament to be held in the Indian subcontinent.
The PCB had earlier provisionally agreed not to select five players as they seek to come clean on match-fixing charges against some of their stars.
Former Test captain Salman Butt, fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal and leg spinner Danish Kaneria are the players who were blacklisted last week.
Akmal has been under investigation for his role in Pakistan’s controversial defeat by Australia in January’s Sydney Test.
On the other hand, Kaneria was recently cleared by police over allegations of spot fixing, but has not been offered a new contract by Essex.
The other three are also accused of spot fixing during the recent series in England. (ANI)
