PCB chief Butt to appear before Pak senate
August 1st, 2010 - 3:44 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Aug 1(ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ijaz Butt will have to appear before the privilege motions committee of the Senate for making “disparaging” remarks against some members of the Senate sports committee.
Butt, who is currently in England along with the touring national team, is accused of breaching the privileges and damaging the reputation of the senators.
Senator Tahir Mashadi, who heads the Senate committee on privileges motion, said that some members of the Senate standing committee on sports wanted to move a privilege motion against Butt.
“Ijaz has made some disparaging remarks against some of the senators on the sports committee and they want to move a privilege motion against Ijaz,” The Daily Times quoted Mashadi, as saying.
“As soon as he returns from England we will summon him for a hearing in two or three days time so that this matter is cleared up. Ijaz will be given the chance to defend himself against the charges made out against him.”
However, if he fails to satisfy the privileges committee then it would push to have a privileges motion moved against him in the Senate,” he added.
He also said that Butt would be asked to explain his remarks that senators were trying to influence the board to clear the bills of a construction company that built the enclosure at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. (ANI)
