PCB boss Butt booed by angry fans at Lahore airport
September 9th, 2010 - 1:57 pm ICT by ANILahore, Sept 9 (ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Ijaz Butt, was booed by angry cricket fans, as he emerged from Lahore airport in his first public appearance since the spot-fixing scandal.
A group of resentful fans booed and shouted “shame, shame” when they saw Ijaz coming out, the Sydney Morning Herald reports.
Talking to reporters, Butt claimed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) had rejected the PCB’s initial response to the charge sheets of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir, as he had written the letter on their behalf, but the ICC wanted “individual replies from the players.”
“We will give the new reply within 14 days,” Butt added.
The PCB chief said that Pakistan team manager Yawar Saeed had informed him on the fourth day of the Lord’s test to tell him that “police have warrants to search players’ rooms.”
He claimed that Scotland Yard police interrogated the trio for nine hours, but let them go without pressing any criminal charges against them.
“We have a zero tolerance on corruption, but we cannot launch a parallel investigation because the matter is already under investigation,” he pointed out.
Butt, under whose chairmanship, Pakistan has seen five different Test captains come and go in just over a year- Shoaib Malik, Younus Khan, Mohammed Yousuf, Shahid Afridi and Salman Butt, is under tremendous pressure to resign from his position. (ANI)
