PCB blames Younis’ counsel for delay in hearing against ‘indefinite’ ban
May 30th, 2010 - 6:48 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, May 30 (ANI): The hearing concerning former captain Younis Khan’s appeal against the indefinite ban imposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been adjourned eight times due to his counsel’s ’strange’ demands.
PCB’s legal advisor Taffazul Rizvi blamed Younis’ lawyer for delaying the hearing by raising unnecessary demands.
“For one reason or another the appeal hearing for Younis Khan has had to be postponed and put back eight times. Some of the reasons are beyond comprehension,” Rizvi told PakPassion.net.
“Younis’ legal counsel wanted to cross examine members of the PCB Enquiry Committee, then they wanted to cross examine PCB Chairman Ijaz Butt, on another occasion they wanted to bring in members of the media to the hearing. All of these requests have been thrown out by the judge and after each request is turned down, they have been coming back with a new request,” he added.
Rizvi said that angered over the attitude of Younis’ counsel, the appellate tribunal had warned also him for behaviour.
Commenting on the PCB’s decision to revoke the one-year ban on Shoaib Malik, he said the verdict will have no bearing on other player’s appeal against the ban and fine imposed on them by the board.
“Each hearing will be evaluated separately and the outcome of one appeal will have no bearing on any of the other appeals. Each appeal will be looked at on it’s own merit,” Rizvi said. (ANI)
