Pawar gets direct entry into German Open badmintonFebruary 25th, 2008 - 7:30 pm ICT by admin
New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) Anand Pawar’s maiden title win in Austrian Open has earned him a direct entry into the German Open starting Tuesday. The 124th ranked player, who stunned the field toppling higher-ranked players, will meet eighth seed Andre Kurniawan Tedjono of Indonesia in the first round. Should Anand win his first round, he could once again run into Vladislav Druzchenko of Ukraine, who he beat in the Austrian Open final Sunday.
“My confidence is high after winning the Austrian Open. German Open will be more competitive. The conditions will be different but I will look to score some upset there,” Anand told IANS from Vienna.
Other Indians in the main draw for German Open are ninth seed Anup Sridhar, who meets Seung Mo Shon of Korea and Arvind Bhat will clash with Frenchman Erwin Kehlhoffner.
