New Delhi, June 1 (IANS) Following in the footsteps of national team forward Sunil Chettri, Indian goalkeeper Subrata Paul left for Vancouver Tuesday while defender Gourmangi Singh will leave later this week for trials at Melbourne FC.
Paul’s agent Arvind Narayan told IANS that the Pune FC player will attend a 10-day trial with the newly promoted Major League Soccer (MLS) team Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

“He will attend a 10-day trial at Vancouver and will play some pre-season matches for them,” Narayan said.

Paul was scheduled to go for trials in April but postponed his departure till the end of I-league after he sustained injuries against Mumbai FC.

Paul hopes that Chhetri going to Kansas and his trip to Vancouver would open up opportunities for other Indian footballers.

Chettri has been signed up by first division MLS club Kansas City Wizards and if Paul gets the nod from Vancouver Whitecaps FC, he, too, will be joining his India team mate in the American league this season.

Gourmangi, Churchill Brothers defender, is all set to leave for a two-week trial with top A-League club Melbourne FC.

“It is a big moment for me. Their season starts in August and I will get just two weeks to impress them. It is a big opportunity for me and I have to make it,” he said.
