New Delhi, March 7 (IANS) Former captain Pargat Singh Saturday questioned the selection of forward Deepak Thakur and drag-flicker Sandeep Singh in the Indian team for the Hockey World Cup.
“The selectors have some credibility. I think by selecting players like Deepak and Sandeep they are losing their credibility,” said Pargat on the sidelines of the World Cup.

“Deepak is completely lacking fitness and Sandeep is a not good defender. Sandeep’s only plus point is that he can take drag-flicks, but that too he is taking at waist height, which is the most easy area for a goalkeeper to defend.”

Pargat, however, felt that the selectors can’t be blamed because they don’t have a large pool to select from.

“What can the selectors do? They have a pool of 20-30 players to select a team. Our boys were also poor with their basics. We need better coaches at the grassroots level,” he said.
