Rio de Janeiro, Jan 15 (IANS) Brazilian club Palmeiras pulled out a last minute goal to beat Netherlands’ Ajax at home in a friendly match.

The match played Saturday was full of tactical errors and the level of play was less than desirable. The home crowd appeared irritated and impatient. However, recently retired club idol and goalkeeper for over a 20-year period, Marcos, made a surprise visit and cheered up the crowd.

After 90 minutes, the match remained scoreless. In the fourth and last minute of added time, Maikon Leite headed in a crossed ball from Luan at the bottom of the left side of the field to win the match.

The Dutch team will return home, completing a full week in Brazil. On Jan 22, Ajax returns to the Dutch championship where they are currently placed in fourth.

Palmeiras now places its focus on the debut of the Sao Paulo state championship. The team will play against Bragantino Jan 22.
