Pakistani Cricketer Zulqarnain Haider Turns Up In London After Fleeing From Dubai

haiderNov 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Pakistani cricketer Zulqarnain Haider who was reported to be missing just few hours prior to the fifth and final ODI between Pakistan and South Africa in Dubai, has turned up in London after supposedly receiving death threats. The 24-year-old cricketer’s brother has confirmed to news sources that Zulqarnain Haider and his family have been at the receiving end of threatening messages. The Pakistan Cricket Board, which has been marred with a slew of betting allegations lately, has reportedly initiated an inquiry into the mysterious disappearance of the cricketer.

According to reports, Zulqarnain Haider fled Dubai during the early hours of Monday morning and arrived at London’s Heathrow airport where he spent hours talking to immigration officials about the formalities of seeking asylum in the United Kingdom. After arriving in London, the 24-year-old wicketkeeper gave an interview to a reputed Pakistani news source in which he pointed out that he was left with no other option but to flee Dubai as he was receiving death threats to lose the fourth as well as the fifth ODI against South Africa but he refused to do so as he could not compromise the dignity of his country.

Moreover, the Pakistani cricketer also went on to say that he would not be able to divulge the location where he has put up for the sake of his safety while assuring that he was safe and sound. In the wake of the death threats that Zulqarnain Haider has received, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, the High Commissioner of Pakistan to the United Kingdom has told reporters that the player would be provided with any kind of consular help that he might need.
