Pakistan has “very tough” semi-final ahead: Miandad
March 25th, 2011 - 1:28 pm ICT by ANIKarachi, Mar 25(ANI): Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has hailed the national team for its superb show against West Indies in Wednesday’s World Cup quarterfinal, but warned them of the tougher challenges ahead.
“We deserve to celebrate our qualification for the semi- finals but at the same time we should not forget that we have a very tough semi-final ahead of us,” the Daily Times quoted Miandad, as saying.
India, which beat Australia by five wickets in Thursday’s quarterfinal in Ahmedabad to enter the semifinal stage, “will prove to be a much tougher opponent than West Indies,” he added.
Miandad, a key member of the 1992 World Cup-winning team, noted that the Pakistan team had played very well to beat the West Indies by ten wickets, but it now needed to sit down and plan ahead of their semifinal clash against India.
“We need to look at our weaknesses and strengths and also do a detailed homework on our opponents as well,” he said.
Expectations are high in the cricket-crazy region for a mouth-watering Pakistan-India clash for a slot in the World Cup final match to be held at Mumbai on April 2.
“We need to rethink our bowling combination for sure,” Miandad said. (ANI)
