Pakistan board summoned over players’ participation in IPL
December 13th, 2009 - 7:22 pm ICT by IANSKarachi, Dec 13 (IANS) Jamshed Dasti, chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Sports, has asked the Pakisan Cricket Board (PCB) top officials to appear at the Parliament House hearing December 17 over participation of the country’s players in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The committee wants to probe the issue after hearing contradictory report on the IPL future of leading Pakistani cricketers.
The committee’s decision to summon PCB chairman Ijaz Butt and other senior board officials coincided with a board statement that it has permitted all non-contracted cricketers to take part in the cash-rich Indian league.
The PCB statement has asked all non-contracted players to write to IPL chief Lalit Modi and indicate their availability for the auction.
The last date of submission of application with supportive documents is December 31, said the statement.
Last week, Butt announced that the issue of participation of Pakistani cricketers in IPL 3 would be resolved soon.
“I am fully committed to the inclusion of Pakistan players in IPL third edition. PCB has not surrendered yet and the issue will soon be resolved,” the PCB chairman told reporters in Lahore.
His announcement came a couple of days after Modi ruled out participation of Pakistani players in the IPL’s third edition to be played in March-April next year due to a visa problem.
