Pak umpire recounts horror of sea of bullets sprayed from all directions
March 3rd, 2009 - 6:25 pm ICT by ANI Lahore, Mar.3 (ANI): Recounting the horror tale of the terror attack on the Sri Lankan cricket players and other officials, Umpire Nadeem Ghauri said that the attack was so sudden that they couldnt make out as to what was happening amid bullets coming from all directions.
Ghauri, who was officiating in the second Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka as a field umpire, said the attackers targeted the bus from all directions.
Our bus was strayed by bullets from all corners on which we took shelter behind the seats, The News quoted Ghauri, as saying.
He also confirmed that the fourth umpire, Ahsan Raza was injured during the firing, and the driver of the bus was killed.
At least six Lankan players, namely captain Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana were wounded in the attack.
The Lankan team convoy was attacked on Tuesday morning when it was on its way to the Gaddafi Stadium where the second Test match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is being played.
Five security personnel were also reportedly killed in the firing and grenade attack. (ANI)
