Pak needs vibrant, dynamic, independent judiciary: Chief Justice

Islamabad, Apr 25(ANI): Pakistan Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said an independent judiciary is a prerequisite for a strong nation.
Addressing the concluding session of the three-day National Judicial Conference here, he said: “If the judiciary is vibrant, dynamic and independent, it will not only provide strength to other state institutions, but also establish our credentials in the comity of nations.”
The Nation further quoted him, as saying that measures of deterrence, prevention and education should be applied to counter corruption in courts.
“It is necessary to strengthen the courts’ surveillance systems, especially at district level. Malicious and false accusations against the good name of the judicial officers should be strictly discouraged, and addressed with disciplinary action,” Justice Chaudhry said.
The Chief Justice also said it was necessary to provide an environment to be convicts reintegrate into society again as responsible and law-abiding citizens after serving their sentences. (ANI)
