Pak looking to salvage some pride in lone T20 against Australia
February 5th, 2010 - 1:11 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Feb.5 (ANI): Following its thrashing in both the Test and one-day series, Pakistan would be looking to salvage some national in the lone T20 match against Australia today (Friday).
Pakistan will seek to defeat the Kangaroos to provide some balm to the wounds suffered during a tough tour.
Stand-in skipper Shoaib Malik is confident about leaving the country on a high.
“We have to win this game. We are professionals and we are not simply looking forward to go back after 100 days. We have to put everything in this match, we’ll give out 100 per cent to win this game,” Malik said on Thursday.
The Australia team is looking to hand the visitors another defeat, but their weak record in Twenty20 is a matter of concern.
Australia has won only 11 out of 24 T20 internationals played so far.
Captain Michael Clarke, many believe, is unsuitable for the top job. They say Cameron White should be handed over the T20 team leadership.
Clarke averages just 19.63 with the bat in T20 format.
Former Australia batsmen Mark Waugh also believes that the 28-year-old should step down in view of his sluggish performance.
“I don’t think Clarke’s batting is suited all that well to Twenty20 cricket. With that back injury, I’m just thinking will it shorten his career? Cameron White could easily be captain,” Waugh said.
Squads for the T20:
Pakistan: Salman Butt, Kamran Akmal (wk), Fawad Alam, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik (capt), Khalid Latif, Sarfraz Ahmed (wk), Imran Nazir, Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, Umar Gul, Mohammad Asif, Saeed Ajmal, Rao Iftikhar Anjum, Mohammad Aamer.
