Pak FIA denies investigating Lord’s Test ’spot-fixing’ scandal
September 17th, 2010 - 12:34 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Sep 17(ANI): Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) will take no part in probing the three players allegedly involved in the Lord’s Test ’spot-fixing’ scandal, officials have said.
According to The Dawn, the Pakistan Interior Ministry and FIA officials said that they were ‘least concerned’ about the spot-fixing scandal, and declined to have the players involved investigated.
Earlier, it was reported that a two-member FIA team was in England to gather information on the issue.
The Pakistan Interior Ministry had said that the team had been appointed on the direction of Interior Minister Rehman Malik.
“This will be an initial inquiry to find out the facts and determine the nature of allegations and real truth,” an Interior Ministry statement had said.
“It will interact with London police and get the details,” it added.
Pakistan Test skipper Salman Butt and fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir have been accused by a British tabloid of being paid to deliberately bowl ‘no-balls’ during fourth test against England at Lord’s.
Scotland Yard police is investigating claims that reporters from News of The World had paid 150,000 pounds to London-based Mazhar Majeed in return for exact details.
Butt, Amir, Asif, fast bowler Wahab Riaz and wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal have all given statements to the police in this regard. (ANI)
