Pak coach Younis insists Riaz “available” for remaining ODIs against England

Islamabad, Sept 12 (ANI): Pakistan cricket coach Waqar Younis has insisted that fast bowler Wahab Riaz is available for matches despite the revelation that he is the under the scanner for spot-fixing.

Younis has shown no qualms about playing him in the remaining one-day internationals against England.

“He’s in the (squad of) 15. All 15 are available,” the Dawn quoted Younis, as saying.

Riaz did not play the opening one-dayer against England at the Riverside, and Pakistan insisted his omission was purely tactical, and after England won the match, after piling up 274 for six in rain-reduced 41 overs, Younis reiterated: “I’m told by the management that he is available, and that’s where my line comes.”

Controversy hit 25-year-old Riaz in only his second Test at Lord’s, where he bowled two wides and eight no-balls. He is the fourth Pakistani cricketer to be interrogated by Scotland Yard, who have already questioned team-mates Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif spot-fixing allegations.

Butt, Amir, and Asif have been provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and have returned to Pakistan. (ANI)
