Lahore, Apr. 13 (ANI): Pakistan cricket team manager Intikahab Alam has said that if the team plays to its full potential, it can beat the West Indies in their own backyard.

Leaving behind the team’s semi-final loss to India in the 2011 ICC World Cup, the Daily Times quoted Alam, as saying: “Now the team is embarking upon a new journey, on a new venture, and, if the players play to their full potential, we can beat the West Indies in their own backyard.”

He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the first day of the Pakistan team’s short duration training camp for the tour of West Indies here on Tuesday.

The team had two training sessions of strenuous physical training and net practice.

He said the team is facing a new challenge that needed a collective efforts to challenge the West Indies.

“We have to regroup in the same manner, the way we did in the World Cup for an improved performance and every team member must play to his full potential to justify his inclusion,” he maintained.

“I think the (World Cup) defeat was a lesson, and I believe, the players have learnt to play in pressure situations and this could add to the team’s performance in the coming tour,” he added.

He said the present West Indies squad was not as strong as it use to be in the mid-1970s and 1980s.Pakistan’s tour to West Indies begins with a warm-up game on April 18. It will play one Twenty20, five one-day internationals and three Tests. The team will leave for the West Indies on April 14.
