Paid heavily for not sticking to a proper game plan: Dhoni
October 30th, 2011 - 12:52 am ICT by IANSKolkata, Oct 29 (IANS) After being comprehensively defeated by England in the one-off Twenty20 International here Saturday, India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni said his team paid heavily for failing to stick to a proper game plan.
Speaking to media persons after the match, Dhoni said his team needs to look at its game plan for the twenty20 format.
“We need to look at the short-version game plan. It is where we did not do well,” the Indian captain said.
Dhoni said his team had a good start but could not retain the momentum as they lost wickets to bad shots.
“We had a good start and had some partnerships going. But we lost wickets to some bad shots,” he said.
The Indian captain said a look at the board would show that the rivals were running neck and neck in terms of runs scored but India lost more wickets which made the difference.
Dhoni said his team managed to stage a remarkable rally after the 0-4 defeat in Test and 0-3 in the One Day series as it correctly identified the areas where it lagged.
“It is easier to comeback if one knows the areas to improve. We could identify that and were able to bounce back,” Dhoni said.
On the Eden track, he said: ” “It was decent overall, not a bad wicket I must say.”
