Davis Cup Chennai, Dec 23 (IANS) Leander Paes will partner World No.9 and the highest ranked singles player in the main draw Serbian Janko Tipsarevic in the Aircel Chennai Open to be held here Jan 2-8.

Paes, ranked No.8 in doubles along with long-time partner Mahesh Bhupathi (7), had won the 2011 title when the two came together after a lapse of nine years. The two announced their split again after the ATP World Tour Finals in November.

Bhupathi will partner fellow-Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna (10) as part of the preparations for the 2012 London Olympics.

Tipsarevic was a semi-finalist in the 2011 edition won by Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka. The Serbian is equally adept in doubles play with a world ranking of 85. He was a doubles finalist in the 2010 Chennai Open and a semi-finalist in 2011.

All the three top Indian doubles players had qualified for the World Tour Finals in London, with Bhupathi and Paes making it to the semi-finals.

Bopanna and his erstwhile partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi (Pakistan) had lost in the quarter-finals of the 2011 Chennai Open.
